ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER: EEG Signature Similarities Within Families
Often, and as you might suspect, there are eeg similarities between parents and their children. This is true of the family presented below. The adolescent son was introduced by his parents, who reported that he was having attentional and learning problems, as evidenced by his school performance. We had the opportunity to record and view the eeg patterns of the identified patient, (Mark), his mother (Wanda), step father (Paul) and Christopher (the biological child of Paul and Wanda).
We will start this presentation with baseline spectral array eeg recordings, for the biologically related mother (Wanda), and her son (Mark), and then show how different the eeg signature is for the husband/step-father (Paul). Finally, we will progress to a spectral array image of Mark, about half way through his first eeg training session, in order to show the change that can be attained from this treatment modality.
COMPARATIVE FAMILY MEMBER BASELINES
A view of the above files lets you see the similar general look of the patterns of Mark and his mother, Wanda. While not identical eeg signatures, note that both contain relatively similar proportions of Theta (yellow), to Alpha (red) and Low Beta (green). In contrast, comparing these spectral arrays to Paul's (stepfather) eeg sample below lets you see a very different kind of pattern:

Now notice the slightly different look to Mark's eeg spectral array during his first training session, compared to his baseline. Specifically, it appears that the focus and concentration related low beta range (green) has increased slightly over his baseline recording. This suggests that the training protocol is helping Mark enhance his focus ability. We expect this change in attentional ability to become stronger across learning/training sessions. It is usual and customary to expect that within five to forty sessions, depending on the nature and severity of the disability, the patient will demonstrate a significant positive shift in his attentional ability.
